Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

abc_book_for_mom_mothers_day_paper_craft

Craft supplies

Printer paper

Loaded stapler

Old magazines (preferably your Mom’s favorite ones, make sure she does not need them anymore)

Your pictures

Markers, crayons, stickers

Directions

Fold the papers (13-14 pages) in half, staple on the bend side

Decorate the cover: you can write “ABC book for Mom” or “For my Mom on Mother’s day 2008″ or any else you consider best. Add some stickers, your faces (cut out of your pictures) plus add pictured body (that’s funnier) and cutout from magazines (what your Mom likes best? Perfume? Fruits? Shoes? Jewelry?)

Recycle monster - celebrate Earth day every day!

recycle_paper_earth_day_craft

Children learn quick and easy by fun! Create this 5-minute craft and watch them feeding monster with laugh :)

Craft supplies

2 paper grocery bags

Invisible tape

Scissors

Markers

Directions

Draw on 1 paper bag eyes, nose and huuuuuuuuuge open mouth (considering bottom of the bag as top of the head)

Cut out mouth so you have huuuuuuge opening :)

Write “Feed me!” on another paper bag

Wear top over the bottom and tape

Put the monster in the kitchen and don’t forget to feed him regularly! :)

Tip: you can make “plastic” monster by adding eyes on the side of plastic trash bag. Pull the top a little bit so you have wide open, but not_so_wide_open mouth. Put some plastic bottles inside so it’s not lying flat and as an example. Earth day actually is every day, but this special holiday in April is just perfect reminder for us to keep our planet clean and breathing! :)

Yarn picture

yarn_wax_picture_craft

Express your individuality by creating this attractive uncommon thing :)

Originally they use special wax to stick the yarn on the picture. We suggest using white glue as more handy one. But of course, if you have that wax that would even be better!

Craft supplies

Cardboard or plywood piece

Yarn - as many colors as you plan to use in your artwork (we used 4: camel, yellow, blue, blue lagoon)

Pencil

White glue

Toothpick

Scissors

Directions

Draw design that you want on cardboard or plywood piece

Spread the glue on one zone you wish to start with

Start laying yarn onto that zone (move from outer edge to the center), adjusting it with toothpick

Follow up with other zones

Tips: 1) do not cover with glue all the picture at once because glue will be dry before you get there. Only do one zone at a time; 2) lay the yarn starting from outer edge so if you have two loose ends of the yarn you have it inside the figure and can neatly secure them; 3) you may want to spray the picture with sealer so it won’t collect the dust :)

Cardboard house with picture

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

cardboard_house_picture_craft
This craft is soooooo suitable for any occasion. First, you can do it for yourself as picture display. Second-third-fourth and so, you can make it Mother’s day gift, Father’s day gift, Grandparents’ day gift or Valentine’s day gift: just add corresponding words or embellishments! :)

Craft supplies

Cardboard house from craft store

Acrylic paint - we chose pearl-pink and light purple, paintbrush

Picture with your happy face :) Or two-three-four happy faces

Couple wooden stars from craft store

Glitter

Scissors

Ribbon

School glue

Optional: stickers, markers

Directions

Paint the house any way you like it, let it dry

Paint stars with glue, sprinkle with glitter, let the glue dry

Glue the stars to the “roof” part of the house

Choose a picture that you can crop to make a “door” with it

Glue it to the house

Frame picture with ribbon

Tip: instead of stars, you can add “window” in the attic, too :) If you make this craft for Valentine’s day, add some hearts stickers and write loving words! :)

St.Patrick’s day bookmark

st patrick’s day bookmark

Craft supplies

Cardboard support from stickers (membranous stickers always have that so they won’t get bended) or just piece of cardboard

Hole puncher in case you use your own cardboard :)

Thematic St.Patrick’s day stickers

Glitter glue pencil

Slender ribbon or cord

Green and golden pony beads (or any beads)

2 bells

Loaded glue gun (optional, in case your cord doesn’t fit into bells’ loops)

Directions

Decorate bookmark with stickers and glitter glue (or cut bookmark out of cardboard, make a hole at the top and then decorate it)

Let the glitter glue dry

While it dries prepare the pendant: thread the beads on the ribbon or cord, thread the bells (we suggest using bells because they imitate gold’s peal leprechauns love so much! :) )

Fold it in half, string the loop into the hole, string the ends into that loop - voila! Pendant securely fixed on the bookmark!

This is a great craft to have fun or to memorize your St.Patrick’s day (write a date on the wrong side!), or just give somebody as a gift!

Pirate hat

pirate-hat-paper-craft

Craft supplies

Black poster board 17×22″ (av. 43×55cm)

Feather (or feathers)

Tape

Pirate stickers

Elastic cord

Awl

Directions

pirate hat folding instructions

Fold poster board up by longer side (so bend’s length is 17″)

Fold two halves you got towards that bend so if you look from aside you see perfect “W” (all four parts are equal)

Now put it sideways on the table and unfold one part towards you

Fold all 4 corners so you see <=> form

Fold 2 halves together like you close the book :) Now you have \_/ form, right? It means your hat is ready!

Spread it and put on your head. Does it fit? Tape some feathers, attach stickers…

One last detail to keep it from falling… Pirates are so active, aren’t they? Make two holes with awl in upper corners of the hat, put the elastic cord through, tie a knot. AARRRRRRRRR!

Tips: you might want to have eye patch and parrot

pirate-parrot-craft

Craft supplies

Colored poster board

Scissors

Black (or any dark color you want) paper for background

Shredded colored paper for “feathers”

2-3 colored real feathers from craft store

1 googly eye

Markers or crayons

School glue

Time needed: half an hour or more (depends how “downy” you want your parrot)

Directions

Trace parrot and wing using our template HERE on the poster board paper

Make a through cut on the parrot where marked

Bend the end of the wing where marked, pass it through the slit, glue

Glue some feathers (real ones) on parrot’s head (that part supposed to be back one)

Glue parrot on the background

Glue the eye

Now, you can cover his whole body with glue and then place as many “feathers” as you want, or, you can dip each ‘feather’ into glue and place it on the body – whichever way is convenient for you

Draw a beak with marker or crayon, or you can trace a beak separately on any other color paper and then glue it over

Add any elements you want – draw palm trees on the background, put some stickers, dust glitter. It is your project and you can improvise any way you want!

Hang it on the wall (use 2-sided tape or, glue a hook on the back side) . Enjoy him flapping his wing (with your little help, of course :) )
